Lessons from Chihuly

I was on vacation last week and go the chance to be introduced to the fantastic artist Dale Chihuly whose work is featured in this picture.  While I was doing a bit of research on him I found out that he lost sight in one eye in a car accident and that he dislocated his shoulder bodysurfing and both accidents occurred very early in his art career.  Since he could no longer do the physical part of the work he morphed into a director or as he calls it choreographer.  Most interestingly he has been quoted as saying that he likes this view and it helps him anticipate problems.

For me this was the perfect analogy for being a manager – helping the work get done through others.

His work is found all over the world and for those in the Ottawa/Gatineau region you can find his work in the lobby of the Lac Leamy Casino.
